The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has described the revived CGC's Conference as a testament and a formidable force for government policy formation and implementation that would aligne with the goal of President Bola Hammed Tinubu's administration.
Speaking at the ground opening ceremony of the event in Lagos on Thursday, Adeniyi told participants that reviving the essential tradition of the CG Conference is to embark on a transformative journey characterised by impactful collaboration, commitment and practical problem solving so that Customs can contribute to the prosperity of our great nation.
While emphasing on the choice of making Lagos state, the commercial city the host of the Landmark event, the CGC said that Lagos houses 40% of Customs Commands and generates over 70% of the service monthly revenue.
He further stressed that Lagos State is a corner stone for Nigeria Customs Service and that it plays a vital role in the narrative of a great Nigeria.
In his words" As we navigate through the event today, we hope that the synergy between us inspires us to contribute significantly to the prosperity of our nation Nigeria even as we embrace technology and global best practice in the course of our assignments"
Also speaking at the event was His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, who congratulated the CG of Customs, Wale Adeniyi on his recent appointment by President Tinubu and for reviving the CG Conference event.
Gov. Sanwo-Olu also commended the Nigeria Customs Service for her performance over the year in securing the nation's border and promised that his administration will create an enabling working environment for the service to surpass its current capacity.
On his part as the Oni of Ife, HRM, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, commended the leadership of NCS for keying into the transformation agenda of President Tinubu for Nigeria.
The Oni of Ife however tasked Nigeria Customs Service to ensure it initiate a Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) package for the youth in Lagos where the service generates a larger parts of its revenue.
